How many entries does the HIFF Committee select?
We select screening films and awards based on quality not quantity. The number of films selected differs depending on the year and the venue we have available.
Using a grading system, our jury selects films to be awarded with golden cine, excellence, merit or honorable mention titles and one winner from each competition category is also selected. Not all winners will be screened at our event, only the jury favorites from our category award winners will be screened at our chosen North American venue.
Am I eligible for any awards if my film is not screened as part of the competition?
When will the awards be announced?
Award winners will be published on our website within a month of the final closing date. Email notifications to winners will be made at the same time.
I submitted a rough cut. Can I send in a revised version/better/color-corrected/shorter/longer cut later?
Yes, as long as the current cycle's deadline has not passed. A new entry fee will be required to pay for the additional viewing.
Do you offer feedback on submitted works?
Unfortunately we do not offer a feedback service at this time.
HIFF selected my entry! What's next?
All winning entrants will have their entry marked as "Accepted" and/or "Award Winner" on their FilmFreeway account. Please note this does not necessarily mean you film will be screened at our event as only the jury favorites (ie. the "Best Film" winners) will be screened at a chosen North American venue.
If your film has been selected to screen at our event, we will contact you directly with additional instructions.
